Top 5 Dividend Stocks To Invest In Right Now

Perspective: This article utilizes intelligent behavioral analysis to examine how investors anticipate upcoming securities prices and has little to do with the operations of the underlying companies. Those fundamentals and debates over them are an embedded part of the investor perceptions and are not the focus of this article, which is more interested in the potential investment outcomes.

How long can it last?

Since the Fed destroyed many investment yield possibilities related to the yield curve of US Government securities, investors have reached further up the risk ladder to seek income.

Recent SA articles (example: here) have focused on mReits (mortgage-based Real Estate Investment Trusts) that in most cases pay double-digit annual rate dividends.

Some of that high rate is due to the favorable tax treatment of REITs. But an important part is that the REIT shares themselves are depressed in price for fear of their further loss of value as interest rates must ultimately rise. A rate rise should further depress the book value of mortgages issued at recent low interest rates, the principal assets of the mREITs.

Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) -- Winner Johnson & Johnson's signature Band-Aids and its "No More Tears" baby shampoo won't be necessary after the consumer and pharmaceuticals giant posted better than expected quarterly results. Adjusted earnings climbed to $1.54 a share from a $1.22 a share showing a year earlier. Analysts were holding out for a profit of $1.48 a share. Revenue also clocked in better than expected, topping $18 billion. A good report sometimes isn't enough to please the market, but Johnson & Johnson kept the positive vibes coming by raising its forecast for all of 2014. US Airways -- Loser It's probably the nightmare of anyone working social media for a major corporation. You're surfing the Web between posting corporate tweets, you come across something shockingly naughty, and you want to share it with a friend so you copy the link. Unfortunately you forget to update your copied link when publicly responding to a client on Twitter, only to realize that you're sending a link of a naked woman getting intimate with a model airplane to more than 420,000 followers. This is what happened to American Airlines Group's (AAL) US Airways on Monday. It quickly deleted the tweet, but not before word spread of the deed. Accidents happen. Even folks on top of the social media universe are human. It's still embarrassing. Netflix (NFLX) -- Winner Comcast (CMCSK) customers should experience better Netflix connections. We figured this would happen back in February when Netflix struck a deal with the country's largest cable and broadband Internet provider to improve video quality, but now it's official. The $1.8 billion in sales that Steel Dynamics recorded in fiscal Q2 2013 were down about 5% from last year's Q2 sales of $1.9 billion. And with the average selling price for the company's steel dropping more than 8% per ton in comparison to last year's Q2, to $781, this hurt profits even worse. For comparison, rival mini-mill operator Nucor (NYSE: NUE  ) reportedthis morning that its average selling prices for steel were only down 7%. With prices and sales both down on a diluted earnings-per-share basis, Steel Dynamics reported $0.13 profit -- down 38% from last year.

The basic materials sector is highly cyclical. It relies on a strong economy to create demand for its raw materials. Since most of its products are considered to be commodities, the sector is sensitive to supply and demand fluctuations, with end-users able to substitute based on price.

Historically, yields in this sector have been on the lower end of the scale. However, with the increased demand for certain raw materials, the stocks in this sector are beginning to see higher yields with increased profitability. In addition, depressed prices on some companies have also boosted yields.

This week, I screened my dividend growth stocks database for Basic Materials companies with a yield above 2.0% and that have increased their dividends for at least 10 consecutive years. The results are presented below:
